Welcome to Ladybird class! We generally have the younger children in Ladybirds, and have spent time setting up the room for this age group. The shelving is lower than in other rooms, allowing easy access to resources. We also have a sleep/quiet area for those children who wish to take some time away from the busy nursery day for a nap or rest. As with all the classrooms, we have divided up the areas using shelving, so children have direct and easy access to the resources available to support their independent play. We tend to have many resources that stay the same, so that children can return to their activities over a period of days and revisit their favourite activities. However, we also add resources that may be of interest to the children, such as a doctor’s kit in the home corner.
We have a lovely, covered outdoor space where the children have free flow access to sand, water and physical play activities. In addition, our classroom has direct access to the Woodland Garden.Â
All children have their own coat peg. Upon arrival in the morning, we encourage children to find their peg, put all their belongings away and self-register by finding their name card.  Â

Autumn Term 2 - 2025
This half term we have been singing our core rhyme of The Wheels on the Bus. The children have enjoyed joining in with the actions and making up a few new verses of our own! The children are certainly growing in confidence and it has been lovely to see them welcoming our new starters. The children have enjoyed making buses with the blocks, using the cars and ramps and singing transport related songs. Last week we enjoyed a visit from Rhubarb Theatre and the children wholeheartedly enjoyed Going on a Bear Hunt! There was much giggling and laughter in the sessions!
This half term we have also continued to enjoy lots of water and messy play. Once again, thank you to all the parents who have put plenty of changes of clothes in their child’s bag as this really allows the children to fully explore!
As we approach Christmas we shall begin to learn our songs for the Christmas Sing-a-long as well as joining in with seasonal activities that look at not only at the festivities but also the changes in the world around us through winter. Please look out for your song book and Tapestry videos to help you learn the songs at home together.
We would also like to encourage parents to share the things you have been doing at home with us on Tapestry, as a new observation, the children love to look and talk about photos of themselves. This can be of a walk to the park, making something together at home, singing together, or a family day out. It is always lovely to hear the children talking about their first hand experiences and it really helps build language and confidence skills.
Autumn Term 1 - 2025
Firstly we would like to say a big well done to all of our new starters and their parents as we have settled into our new class. Thank you for all your understanding and support through this transition time. The children and parents have all done really well, so thank you. We would also like to thank the parents of our children staying all day for providing such lovely healthy lunches.
This half term we have been singing our core rhymes of 'Twinkle Twinkle' and 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'. The children have enjoyed learning their actions and doing all of the themed activities around them.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been looking at the changing season and have been exploring Autumn through lots of tactile experiences. These have included conker rolling, leaf printing and exploring what’s inside pumpkins. The children have also been listening outdoors, and we really look forward to our weekly visit from the bin lorry, listening to all the sounds it makes and waving hello to the workers. We have also enjoyed lots of water and messy play. Thank you to all the parents who have put plenty of changes of clothes in as this really allows the children to fully explore!
Next half term our new core rhyme shall be 'The Wheels on the Bus' and we look forward to learning the song and all of its actions. We shall also be celebrating different events throughout the term as well as exploring the changes in season again.
