Caverstede Nursery School

Keeping your children safe

Our prime responsibility as a school is to ensure that all children are safe.
This means that we ensure that everyone working in our school has successfully completed the necessary clearances to enable them to work with children.
It also means that we have staff members who are specifically trained and nominated as the Designated Person for Child Protection. These staff are:
  • Head Teacher; Debbie Hayes
  • Senior Teacher; Katy Coles
  • Class Teacher; Hannah Haigh
  • Class Teacher; Emily Wiseman
- The Head Teacher and Senior Teacher have complete the DfE accredited Safer Recruitment training.
- Katy Coles and Hannah Haigh have attended CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) training.
- The Head Teacher is a trained WRAP (Prevent ) Facilitator.
We are all expected to share any concerns we have about staff conduct around children with the Head Teacher. As in all schools, if there are concerns about the conduct of the Head, then these should be shared with the Chair of Governors. The staff 'Whistleblowing policy' has been discussed and adopted and all staff have access to this document.
We also follow the Peterborough Child Protection Procedures and the Local Safeguarding Children's Board local guidance and have systems in place to share concerns regarding children's welfare with our Designated Person for Child Protection team, with parents and with relevant external agencies. Part of our legal duty to safguard our children may also include us needing to consult specifically with and take advice from the police or Children's Social Care, should the need arise.
We regularly carry out fire drills so that the children become familiar with the fire alarm and evacuation procedure. We also carry out lockdown emergency procedures so that in the event of an invacuation, such as an environmental or external hazard, we all know how to carry these out safely.
First Aid: The majority of our staff have received paediatric first aid training and this is continually updated so that training remains in date. Staff have also recently completed Allergy Awareness training and all necessary actions and recommendations have been updated and implemented. As a result, Caverstede is an Allergy Aware school.
Our Safeguarding policy can be accessed from the link below.
By working closely together as a staff and with our partner agencies, we firmly believe that we will continue to offer a safe learning environment for all of our children.
Please take the time to read our policies and do not hesitate to contact the school should you have any questions.
